Hazel Soan Demonstration
2nd April 2009
We had a full auditorium on Thursday 2nd April when the very well-known Hazel Soan, watercolourist from the UK agreed to give us a demo whilst on a working holiday to Cape Town. Hazel uses Khadi paper which is made in India. This paper is not hand made, but foot made! They actually stamp on it to flatten it.
She works on large 20 x 30 inches sheets. Her wonderful wet into wet technique, using strong pigment into dilute washes producing glowing soft and dark colours. Besides many other tips, she taught us how a stronger pigment can actually push aside a weaker pigment. She painted a Cheetah while the audience watched, enthralled. A dynamic lady with a wonderful personality and incredible talent. We salute you and thank you for the visit.
Hazel Soan is the author of 5 books, mostly on watercolour and two DVD's.
