Karina Behr Demonstration

29 May 2008

Karina Behr kindly came through from her new home in Plettenberg Bay to give the society a demonstration in oils for the May monthly meeting. We had a very good turn-out and Karina chose a still life of roses in a vase and pomegranates, to demonstrate her al la prima technique.

She began by showing us a tonal beginning and then developed her painting from there. In one and a half hours, she basically completed the painting, a phenomenal achievement, with everyone looking over her shoulder. The finished painting is hanging at Kirstenbosch at our Members Exhibition for those who wish to see it. We were fascinated with her methods and learnt a whole new approach and style of painting. We are all very grateful to Karina for letting us in on some of her secrets.
