Life Drawing Sessions

At its core, life drawing sessions center around the observation and rendering of the human figure. Artists gather to capture the nuances of the human body before them. The direct observation of a model provides a three-dimensional understanding of the body’s structure, proportions, and muscle movement.

31 May 2025

Sadly, last Saturday – 31 May – was the last of the SASA life-drawing sessions for this season. With Lizzie modeling for us once more, we enjoyed a wonderfully creative and satisfying, though at times challenging, morning in the Duminy Hall. Thanks to all the members who signed up, to all our lovely models and most of all to the organisers – Audrey Innes and Avril Retief. Avril and Auds were rewarded with a gift of chocolates from Christine, as a token of gratitude. It’s been a great few weeks of Saturdays and hopefully we’ll see you all again same place, more-or-less same-time,next year. Until then, don’t get rusty!

17 May 2025

Last Saturday – 17 May – was the third of our life-drawing sessions for this year, with some brand new members attending. We had a beautiful day, a beautiful model and some beautiful poses to draw…..which of course, resulted in some very beautiful work! Kitty was our model for the morning and her lovely, calm and calming presence allowed us to immerse ourselves in the creative process. Thank you Kitty.
Thanks, once more, to Auds and Avril for all you do to make these mornings happen under the bridge, in the Duminy Hall.

10 May 2025

On a blustery, cold and wet morning, we were warm and dry in the Duminy Hall for the second of this season’s life drawing Saturdays.
We had a brand new (for us) model, Sansu, who gave us lovely shapes to draw and challenging quick poses to get us going. Once again, beautiful drawings were produced and even some brave paintings, difficult to complete in such a short time, but perhaps inspiration for future works?
Another very satisfying morning, thanks to Audrey and Avril…..and Sansu, of course….although what she said when complimented was “I could lie around all morning and nothing would be produced without you artists”! So thanks drawers, we’re a good team!

3 May 2025

We had our first session on Saturday the 3rd and will be in the Duminy Hall every Saturday morning till the end of May. We were very lucky to have Kitty to kick things off, with her lovely calm professional presence and beautiful shapes and poses. If some of us were a little rusty, Kitty certainly wasn’t. A morning happily and productively spent by all the “drawers”. Thanks Audrey and Avril for arranging it for us. See you next week.
